Microsoft TV White Space Pilot Unveiled in Tanzania

Microsoft Corp. has announced a collaboration with the Tanzania Commision for Science in Technology (COSTECH) and UhuruOne on a TV white spaces pilot project seeking to provide wireless broadband access to students and faculty at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Dr. Hassan Mshinda, the director general of COSTECH, expects the project to offer tens of thousands of students and faculty members affordable wireless broadband packages as offered by UhuruOne.

The project follows in the footsteps of a similar one launched by Microsoft in Kenya in February of this year, utilising white spaces and solar power to provide low-cost rural broadband access.
