In June 2015, the Centre for White Space Communication was awarded a grant from the Scottish Government to develop and implement a TVWS pilot network in Orkney. This project involves the setting-up of Wi-Fi hotspots on three council operated ferries to provide connectivity to passengers during journeys.
In addition, further infrastructure will be added to support the delivery of broadband services to several rural locations.
The Centre is working with Orkney based Cloudnet IT Solutions, and a number of other partners to evaluate new Technologies, as well as the commercial viability and social impact of connectivity in rural locations. For more information, see our page on ongoing projects.
